Ease-y Breezy

Hey guys, so I started my "editorial of the week" segment quite some time ago now... But no worries, I'm back on track and this post is the re-start of "editorial of the week".


I found this editorial shot by Craig McDean for Vogue Italia (naturally) while searching the FashionGoneRogue site months ago and was attracted initially by the pieces (almost all of which I would have no problem warmly accepting into my wardrobe... Celine, Michael Kors, Balenciaga, Miu Miu) which were styled in I suppose my favorite way, that sort of casual, unassuming, un-styled manner. Which perhaps I often respond well to because it translates a bit easier (or at least for the more conservative of us) into real-life dressing.


Also, the feel of the shoot: very simple in terms of accessories and make-up, yet the mussed hair, slightly greased bare arms and legs, and the slouchily sexy poses give it a really interesting look. I also love the seventies feel in terms of the furniture and the platform mules with little white socks. Oh, and it doesn't hurt that it features one of my favorite faces, Hanne Gaby Odiele.

"I drove through the hood in my electric wheelchair"

The following is what New York Mag called "a sad and violent short film" created by and starring that crazy South Africans rap crew Die Antwoord and directed by Harmony Korine (of Kids, Gummo, and Mister Lonely fame). If you know anything about Die Antwoord, you know how strange, over-the-top, and unpredictable they seem to be. The only problem is deciding whether or not you think they're for real. In any case, they've made something really strange and beautiful with Korine and I suggest reading the accompanying New York Magazine article before or after watching the 15-minute "fok-ing" awesome mini work of art. New Thing!

Hey guys! So aside from being my first post in a quite a while, this is also the first post of my new weekly segment, Editorial of the Week. If I could only tell you how many editorials from every magazine from RUSSH, Vogue, Numero, to Dazed & Confused and Elle I have bookmarked and saved in folders all over my desktop (could this be the reason for my last MacBook's untimely passing? I suppose we'll never know...) and for what? Well for inspiration I suppose, and just to... look at I guess. But then I thought it would be nice to share with you my favorites, because it's such a great feeling when you find something on a blog that you ALSO love and find inspiring, etc.


Sooo here's my first choice. This one actually, is not from my archives, but one I just found today on Cartoon Styles, one of my favorite places to find editorial pictures besides Fashion Gone Rogue (which continues to blow my mind... how do they get every single editorial, campaign, and photo shoot on there??). This one's a photo shoot featuring Maria Flavia shot by Billy Kidd. I'm not sure what publication it was for, or who she's wearing, but I am sure that I love it. It may be because I have a soft spot for black and white photographs, but also because I am also a sucker for natural beauty, and un-fussy, au natural-style shoots. The model is of course lovely and beautiful, and the expressions Kidd captures are pretty great. Although I assume that this wasn't a fashion editorial per se, I do also love the simple idea of layering the varied nylon undergarments as a sort of quiet style statement, understated enough so all the focus is still on Maria.

Can't get enough...

...Of Aussie singing sensation Kimbra. Get this, she's only 22 YEARS OLD. It's times like this where I feel pretty hopeless in following my own dreams and aspirations, when there's gals like this so ahead of the game, but that's another story. I saw the awesome music video for "Settle Down" on my friend Lil's facebook and instantly fell in love with Kimbra, the song, and the video. She's one of those artists you can tell straight away has "star quality" and just great performance skills. So, I went on to watch her live studio performances at Sing Sing studios and, of course, I was completely blown away. The videos are shot wonderfully, and her charisma and her interesting yet powerful voice (not to mention good looks) make it impossible not to watch. I read that she's apparently a SXSW Showcasing Artist, and that her debut full-length album Vows is being released sometime in the start of 2011 (hopefully soon!). As always, hope you enjoy.
